Bridgette Agbozo

Youth Advisory Council

Bridgette is originally from North Carolina and spent several formative years in Ghana. They earned a degree in psychology with minors in African/African-American studies and leadership studies from Elon University. Passionate about reproductive justice and uplifting intersectional experiences, They naturally gravitated towards the sexual and reproductive health world. What started as a personal curiosity blossomed into impromptu teaching in dorm rooms, community-based internships, and becoming a CenteringPregnancy facilitator.

Bridgette engaged in mentored research with Dr. Buffie Longmire-Avital, an associate professor of psychology, throughout their undergraduate tenure. It uncovered the challenges that arise when attempting to capture the nuance of sexuality and identity. Later, Bridgette created Heath4Us, a peer education and support program for womxn of color at Elon University. The program included a “crash course” in general sexual and reproductive health topics, a discussion about partner-to-partner communication, and free testing for sexually transmitted infections and diseases. Nearly 50 students participated and it thrived with the support of several community health partners including The Minority Sex Report, ONE Condoms, and Alamance Cares.

After graduation, Bridgette completed a public health service year fellowship with Healthy Alamance. They coordinated local producer-only farmers markets, taught comprehensive sex education with local middle schoolers, and organized with the Health Equity Collective of Alamance County. They is currently supporting local health departments to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Bridgette is excited to utilize lessons and skills gleaned from youth-centered health education and coalition-building to propel the work of the Youth Advisory Council. In their personal time, Bridgette enjoys international travel (pre-COVID!), dancing with no music, running, and developing veggie-based dishes.
